Here in FL. several community colleges offer BS and BA degrees (and are now mostly called state colleges) and it's great! Elitists don't like affordable college options, it brings down their fragile sense of superiority.
A lot of the CCs in the Seattle area offer 4 year degrees. The degrees offered are mostly in medical technology fields, nursing, or technology fields. They complement, but do not compete directly with the 4 year state schools in WA. They're probably never going to offer a bachelor's degree in, say, philosophy.
Most of the faculty at the CCs here have PhDs and the colleges have a tremendous amount of resources. In fact, many of the CCs in WA have more qualified faculty, bigger libraries, and more campus resources than many of the private schools do.
Tuition is around $8,000 per year for an in-state bachelors student.
what do you all think about increasing online college degrees instead of adding BA degrees to community colleges?
Online degrees are increasingly popular for Master's programs.
I live in a small town, but thankfully one of the small towns nearby has a state college.
