Is there a signed contract that promises her a job? Does it state that she won't have to pay if they don't get her a job?

If the answer is NO...then it is a valid bill and she will have it ruin her credit as an unpaid debt. It will get turned over to an attorney, who will then file a law suit against her. She will lose because she cannot prove it is not a debt she owes.

Had a funny feeling about the Everest College name and looked it up......sure enough my intuition was correct.

Are their degrees slightly above or below that of a GED?

She has a job but can only afford to pay $20 a month but now that the college is updating it to $80 or more she can't afford to pay that much.

She was just suggesting that what if she loses her job and cannot find a new job for a while how does the college expect her to pay the bill when she doesn't have a job to pay it?

Normally I would tell her to suck it up and pay her bills but Everest is known for fraudulent marketing to students including misrepresenting everything from tuition, cost of attendance, to employment opportunity after graduation.

Your friend should find out if there is a class action suit in her state and possibly join it.

Looking at their programs, it appears they are training to be assistants in multiple fields and that's it.

I would say it is more equivalent to an Associates Degree.

Searching their website, they have a section for Accreditation, and they explain what it is, but they don't list who they are accredited by...LOL.

That really depends on where her loans are. If it is the federal government (doesn't sound like it) she could try for deferment, which is getting permission to put payments on hold if you have financial problems. Other loan providers have different rules.

In short, it isn't their concern how she gets the money, as long as she pays them. If she cannot pay, then her credit will take a hit, she will be in default, she will get sued. She can declare bankruptcy, but student loans typically don't get forgiven in bankruptcy so it won't fix any of her problems.

If there was a co-signer then that person will become responsible, typically a parent. We don't know the specific details of the loan, but the basic answer is the school will get their money, one way or another.

Schools do not get people jobs.
They are in the education business.

It is up to your friend to bust her butt and get that job!

Trust me I applied to Target, Toys R Us, Ross, all wanted people with experience over me with little experience.

You do know this school as been threatened with and had their accreditation suspended by different groups. Targeted by government for preying on poor disenfranchised people and taking their money without delivering a decent education; highly unethical behaviors. This is one of the truly highly abusive for profit colleges in existence. The degree is worthless.
