Ok So I have an overall 2.5 GPA, but for my Major itself it's in 1.7 (After a D I just received). The 1.7 is mostly due to a previous F I received in the same course I just got the D in. The F policy in my school only works if you get a C after retaking the course. I unfortunately got a D. So I'll be able to move on, but my gpa isn't good. So I'm wondering, if I complete all the credits with an under 2.0 gpa in my major, what happens? Are the going to discount the 180 credits I've taken? Do I have to retake courses?

It depends on the program. Check the university catalog and/or ask your advisor.

It says you need at least a 2.0 gpa overall and in your major to graduate. So I won't graduate, but that's it?

Are there any extenuating circumstances that may have effected you ability to do your best work?

A serious illness, a broken leg (which made getting between classes on time extremely difficult), your beloved grandfather died and you missed a week of classes going home for the funeral or something similar may help but may not help.

A college friend missed a final because her brother's murdered dead body was found the morning of her final exam. The murder was front page news not just around the state but around the whole country and her professor absolutely refused to let her take the exam at a later date. Sadly, even the University couldn't change his mind and she had to drop the class or get a Zero on the exam which would have meant an F in the class.

No I think that means you cannot graduate. Retake the courses you did bad in to bring it up and possibly one you could have done better in. They cannot discount your other credits of you passed the courses simply because of your GPA ESPECIALLY if you got A's and B's in them.

You need a 2.0 to graduate in both your overall and major GPA. Retake as many classes as you need to raise it above. I believe that's the only way.

Extenuating circumstances might explain one grade or if you stretch, one semester, but not a 1.7 major GPA.

I imagine you won't graduate. Why are you wasting your time and money?

Ok I have 9 credits left for my Applied Math major (Hard major btw) so unless I get A's or B+'s in them, retaking this one in fall of next year would have to do.

Thanks everyone.

9 credits away. What was the point of all this then? You try taking Applied Math.

I don't think one class would bring you to a 2.0 though and especially if you get a C. I'd try to retake a few different courses. Kudos to you man, I couldn't be a math major (I'm a science major though). My GPA would be a 1.2 lol
