Nope, they're public! Proud UCSD grad, here.

What that generally means is the "elite" public schools. I often here UCLA, Berkeley, UMich, UVA, William and Mary, and UNC described as "private publics". These are among the hardest schools to get into in the country and have large endowments that are similar to many private schools.

Ahh ... perhaps that's what I was referring to ... thanks!

there are better rankings that directly rank the business schools not the whole university. those can be found at usnews and businessweek.

USNews rankings are irrelevant. I think with the op being from California and having so many schools to choose from in state, it wouldn't be smart to spend that kind of money unless one was attending Harvard or Wharton.

Uh the UC system is exactly the way it sounds. University of California. Funded through tax dollars. An entirely public entity just like any other state school system.

I also wanted to add, where you go for undergrad doesn't really matter for business school if you plan on getting your MBA. WHERE you get your MBA matters. That's my opinion of course. Others, I'm sure will disagree.

Which one do you think is a better overall school? What about in terms of graduate programs? I know some people will say UCB for arts and NYU for business. Just in general which do you think is a better school and why? I'm thinking of going to graduate school for my mba.[/quote]

Im from New York, and i know quite a few people going to NYU. They tell me its a tuff school they are in school from 8:00am and are home finally by 9:00pm. Mind you i only live 20-25 mins from the city.(Staten Island) NYU is a great school, hard, but great. Then you have Berkeley, well, just remember you might be on the beach instead of taking your mid-term. But its also a change. Youll be in the city (Manhattan) which is crazy. I go to Berkeley in the city. Its an experience. I think anyone would like it!
