Right now any decent employer probably has 100 resumes on their desks for maybe 1 or 2 positions. GPA is becoming a popular tool to weed through the applications and throw out most of the group without having to look at the rest of their qualifications. It's getting tougher and tougher out there and it's not enough just to have a degree anymore, they want to see what kind of work ethic you have and GPA is an easy way to see that.

I think anything 3.0 and above is considered a good college GPA. It will get you graduated, give you the ability to go to grad school later if you want, and will generally get you interviews. Anything below a 3.0 lowers your chances of the above significantly.

I have a cumulative 3.33 GPA right now, but it's because I failed out of 3 classes at my previous college. Now I'm wondering if it's possible to make it up and increase the GPA. Any suggestions besides straight A's??? I made deans list my first semester at the university I attend now.

Mine was like a 3.49 at my Tech college...Accounting was awful one semester, and Macro had a teacher who's accent *nobody* could understand very well.

Do employers just kinda laugh at Associate degrees now?

Your GPA should not transfer.

I've been to several schools and the GPA did not transfer, just the credits.

In answer (My Opinion) to the Necro-thread:

Over 3.0 your OK.

3.5 is "Good"

-Just the impression I'm getting currently:

My Status:

Nontraditional Student, Graduate in Dec.
3.71 GPA

IMPORTANT:
Employers are looking at 'OTHER STUFF' also

Girl I dated... 4.0

Didn't do ANYTHING extra.

Other people... closer to 3.5, but did many certifications, clubs etc RELATING to the career field.

They got hired, last I heard she was still looking.

I Do EVERY weekend class, certification, volunteer opportunity etc.

Depends on the major.

Good engineering GPA is 3.3+.

Good GPA for everything else is 3.6+.

Even then, getting the right work experience in college is of equal weight, as is a person's likability.

I think it's less about asking what's good and more about working with what you got. Don't waste time thinking about it, just get the best grades possible. Work on your people skills, that's what will land you the job.

Not everyone is capable of 3.5 to 4.0s, no matter how hard we work. Some of us are very, very driven and well rounded. This should not stop an employer from hiring 2.5 to 3.0 gpas.
