When I paid my daughters loan I was greeted with a celebratory fireworks "pop up" on the screen the next time I logged into the account online commemorating the loan being paid off. I took a screenshot of the zero balance and saved it as a pdf as proof.

Currently working on the parent loan now. Can't wait to see the next firework pop up in a couple more months!

Ask your son for the log in so you can look at it all yourself

Your cancelled check is your receipt and you can take screen shots of the online account showing zero balance.

So quit your belly aching.

When I paid off my final college loan, I never received a receipt. What is it needed for exactly?

I sent off the final payment, and then checked my account the next month just to confirm. I believe I could have also downloaded a statement showing the payoff. I actually saw I still owed 3 cents. A quick call to the firm got that wiped out, and then I got a congratulations and that was it. Nothing ever came in the mail except my final tax form for the interest I paid.

That's the issue, the OP has not seen for themselves that it's paid in full.

Is your address on the account? I would expect them to send some type of letter or statement verifying the loan is paid in full but they would send it to the address on the account.

When I paid off my son's student loan, I received a letter in about a week stating the loan was paid and closed.

It was a letter similar to what I've gotten when I paid off other loans - like a car loans.

I pay online with my account, and with each payment the server usually sends me an email receipt by default when it posts (1-2 days). It just pops up on the iPad.

If you paid with a certified check, you should've gotten the cancelled check back with your statement (unless you actually used a bank check, which is not the same thing).
