Does anyone have any experience with Walden University online degrees. I'm looking at their Master's program in education and wondered about its credibility. I'm also looking at Grand Canyon University. I have a friend who is taking classes from there.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Look at the numerous UofP threads. The same opinions can be applied to Walden, good and bad.

OP - scrutinize Walden U's accreditation, for the specific school you plan to attend.

A rather non-intuitive fact: regional accreditation is higher than national accreditation, on the totem pole:

It depends if you expect a potential employer to take you seriously or not. There are plenty of regionally accredited brick and mortar schools like have distance education options.

I think there are better schools with online master's degrees. I do know someone who attended Walden for her master's. Grand Canyon University is a conservative, Baptist college that began as a bible school, then a For Profit college, and now, a mostly online university.

Walden is one of the less odious online for-profit universities.

They advertise quite a bit. Have you looked at your state university? Do you need a master's to continue teaching?

Both are regionally accredited. That's setting the bar pretty low, however.

I am no fan boy of Walden, but according to their site they are regionally accredited:

https://www.waldenu.edu/about/accreditation

I would check with potential employers first and get a sense of whether they are prejudiced towards schools such as Walden before pursuing a masters with them. Some state's employers (i.e. Texas) are somewhat inclined towards name school graduates (i.e. Texas A&M) but academically I have to wonder why. I understand that the "Aggies" have quite a network but as long as the person can do the job, learned what they needed to know to impart that education to students, and there is a huge shortage of teachers....what difference does it make whether you went to A&M or Walden?

How about some of the state schools that now offer a variety of online programs?

At least then you'll get a degree from a school that is part of that state university system rather than some private, for-profit.

When in doubt go with a university in your state. It's 2022, someone is bound to have an online option.

Not Walden, but Western Governors University. My son got his MBA from there and it was all good.
