PHOENIX – The U.S. State Department and universities around the country are warning college students headed for Mexico for some spring-break partying of a surge in drug-related murder and mayhem south of the border.
"We're not necessarily telling students not to go, but we're going to certainly alert them," said Tom Dougan, vice president for student affairs at the University of Rhode Island.

Mexico has always been bad if you are not in the tourist areas. I am sure it was just a matter of time before it spilled over. I have been there on business and was told not to go out at night or wander alone. Of course I didn't listen At one point I was a little scared but I made it back safe. I heard it is getting worse. I try to avoid traveling there on business. I never get to go to the nice areas.
But to be fair you could get hurt just as bad traveling in a US city if you dont' know where you are going.
