I've applied to graduate schools for Literacy (grades 5-12), and I'm not sure whether to stay at Geneseo, go to UBuffalo, or Binghamton. I already have over $20,000 in student loans.
If I go to Geneseo, I can commute 45min from home and sub in Rochester schools during the day. Buffalo and Binghamton probably have better master's programs, but I'll have to pay for rent, etc. Or I can just leave the state and look for jobs, but I don't know how well that will be. I would rather teach than go to grad school, but the job market is bleak.
1) I needed to be able to work full time during the day (so classes had to be evenings and/or weekends)
2) The program needed to be cheap (I was not going to pay $50k to land a job making $45k)
I'm a career switcher though, so I already had a full time job (in a totally different industry) starting off this whole ordeal. Why not start applying to teaching positions elsewhere? If you get hired, great--if not, sub and go to school as planned. If you end up teaching in any kind of metropolitan area, there will be places you can get your masters later on.
