Does anyone live in or know anything about an area west of Woodland Park called Tranquil Acres? Specifically I am wondering about high speed internet access that is wired versus satellite or over-the-air. Also wondering how access is to that area during the winter, whether the roads are plowed fairly soon after snow or not? Any crime issues?

I'm going to look into it for you. Are you thinking about moving to the area?

I did get some answers to my own questions by talking to the folks at Peak Internet. I was told that there is no cable or DSL to the area, that most people use satellite for TV and internet and that some have data cards like Sprint or Verizon and that they get fairly good signals in that area. I did see that the sprint coverage maps show signal in that area, but it's on the edge of the map.
A friend told me he thought the roads were not well maintained there, but he doesn't live right in the area. I am guessing the paved County Road 25 is probably plowed, don't know beyond that. Crime would be the part I don't know about, but in general I don't think there is a whole lot of crime in Teller County. Not sure of where I am moving to right now, just doing a lot of research.

There is paved access to Tranquil Acres though many of the roads in TA proper are dirt. It is Teller County as opposed to city, and it does get plowed not only by the county but also by local residents. But if you need regular plowing because you're thinking of commuting to Colorado Springs I'd recommend moving closer in.

That being said Tranquil Acres has a WHOLE LOT MORE PROBLEMS than that. If you're on a well out there you're probably fine, but much of TA is on a water system that has never been properly set up or legally maintained and a few years ago when we were mired in serious drought, people's taps ran DRY.

And TA is a real interesting mix. You'll find millon dollar houses on 5 and 10 acre plots, and a whole lot of dilapidated trailer compounds around the bend. Expect plenty of ATVs, guns and dumps in the forest. I've been in Woodland Park for 9 years and Tranquil Acres is one place I would never move. If you're finding houses ridiculously cheap out there, its for a reason. Buyer beware.

If you want to be out west of WP, look at Spring Valley north of Divide - much nicer. Or look north of Woodland Park out towards Painted Rocks. But if you're willing to setting in WP proper we have high speed cable, wireless and DSL.

This should be in the Colorado Springs forum. Lots of info about Woodland Park there. IMO, its CO best kept secret. It is a mtn town with amenities and near COS with that romantic vision of mtns, pines and aspens, log homes (with others of course), lake, etc. Beautiful!
MtnEarth has great advice, follow him/her. Also check into other woodland park info in COS section.

Thank you for the reply. After talking to a couple of people who live in the area, I found out about the wells that go dry during the summer and the water system that doesn't work very well. Also that the county only plows the main road (Blossom) up to the water tank and "that's as far as the ambulance comes when you need one, too", I was told. That was enough to scare me off. I am now looking a little closer to town, but having this post will be helpful to others looking in the future, I'm sure.

I've been coming out to TA since the late 50's. We have summer property out here. I work from home, and for the last two summers I've been able to work out here thanks to Mesanetworks. The speed & reliablity has been as good as at home, plus the price is right. People tend to keep to themselves, but I've made some friends and feel very safe.

That's too bad....my husband and I found a house that we really liked and while it will probably be sold by the time we're ready to buy we still kinda liked the area. It's set a bit back but so close to town. I'm so glad I got this info though!

Lived there in the 60's. High speed internet in Tranquil Acres. Hmmph-can't imagine anything moving fast there.
