Bridgestone Blizzaks in my 2006 Mustang. I do fine. I have a set of tire chains in the trunk, 80 pound bag of sand and kitty litter (for traction in case I get stuck). Never used them.

I have Continental ExtremeContact DWS on my 2009 Subaru Legacy. They are all seasons. Just got them a few weeks ago so I haven't driven them in snow yet, but a friend of mine has them on his Lexus IS-250 and loves them.

The Nokian All Weather, the only tire brand with the snowflake emblem yet designed for all season without shedding rubber like other tire brands with the same snowflake emblem.

I have been using the Michelin Latitude X-Ice Tires on my 4Runner. They are quite excellent on ice, which is what I find to be the biggest issue out here for me. But when the ice gets bad enough, and you are approaching a stop sign, sometimes prayer works the best

I agree with ColoWeb.....the town definitely doesn't shut down........the schools shut down and that keeps some parents at home, so the traffic can be much lighter, but many businesses and companies are still open.

My office bldg never shuts down. They figure if you don't want to come in because of bad weather, you're perfectly within your rights to do so...but it will count against your personal time off.
