We moved here seven months ago...Got temp drivers licenses immediately just as VegasPilgrim described, with the permanent one a couple of weeks later in the mail. Same with getting the cars registered. For your cars, you'll need to get a form (I think it's available on line) that you take to a car dealer. They'll fill it out. The purpose is to validate your VIN. Bring that form, along with your title, and proof of insurance, and they'll issue you a registration and tags and start the process to get you a CO title for your car. That'll come in the mail in about three weeks.

Maybe it's changed? She was told at the state office (Union) and at the El Paso DMV (the new one on north Union) that she needed to show proof of living here. She showed a check from her new bank that has her CO address on it. This was last Wednesday.

The trip up to the new north office is well worth the drive. It was over a hour wait at the state office, no line at the north Union one.

And two doors down from that "north" DMV office (in that Albertson's shopping center at Union and Research) is a fine Thai restaurant, with a Gelato shop in between. A few doors away are a Kabob place and a fine Chinese eatery (Shangra-La). Enjoy a good lunch when you visit.

It's possible they changed their policy with the new year (we arrived in the fall). Or, possibly just selective enforcement of existing policy?

Possibly, but in any case, I don't see how you'd have to/could prove that you have lived in CO for 90 days? If all you need is a check with your new address, or a utility bill, lease agreement, etc, with your name on it, that's a very easy fix. I still think people are making an issue over nothing here.

I've had jobs that required CO DL. Most of the time the employers give new residents a grace period to apply and get the license. And you don't have to live here 90 days; you have to get it within 90 days.
