Hi! We are thinking about purchasing an older house in Colorado Springs with a wood shake roof. It has a roof certification for another couple years or so, so I think it's presently in decent condition.

My question is who do you use for homeowners insurance and is the cost significantly more than say a shingle/concrete/etc roof? I may be shopping around soon, so I obviously would want to get a decent rate.

Thanks!

When all else fails, call 2-3 insurance firms and ask them that question; I'd bet that most will be more than willing to assist you.

Many insurance companies will not write wood shake roofs anymore. Farmers will but they surcharge and cover ACV only. If you'd like any help, feel free to PM me.
