My family and I are cosidering a relocation from CA to CO. Being hockey fans in CA the whole family has dreamed of having a backyard hockey rink. So is it cold enough to sustain ice in Colorado Springs for at least a month? *crosses fingers* From what I've been looking it is that its warm (decently above freezing) in the day. But well below freezing at night in the winter months. I've only seen two backyard rinks in CO (from online of course) in Arvada and in Erie. The one in Arvada that person said that they made it where it is shady most of the day. So would that method work in Colorado Springs? There is also a possiblity of Fort Collins being a destintaion for us also. So maybe if Colorado Springs doesn't work out, Fort Collins might work.

Nope. You would need a place HIGH up in the mountains. Maybe a place like Leadville?

lol, never heard of this request/dream

It doesn't stay cold long enough in the Colorado Springs region to keep a slab of ice solid. It can get in the 50's/60's quite frequently during the winter. You need to look at places above 9,000'. Divide might be a good candidate if you can find a large area with shade. It's typically 10-15F cooler in Divide than the Springs.

A shady area "should" work for you, but we do have rinks here that one can patronize, hockey is popular.

We some threads on hockey, to find them enter the word hockey into our search engine, which is quite good.
