I googled up a few extended stay hotels in COS. One near the Airport lists $30/night for a bed, small kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave), desk, wireless for a one time set-up fee of $5. This rate is based on a 1 month stay. I want to get a feel for the winter so I looked at mid-Jan to mid-Feb.

For those that might have done such a thing ... is this about the going rate? Are there any alternatives that I might be missing? Thanks in advance.

I can't address the rate, but I can recommend and have had very good experience with family who've stayed at the Crestwood Suites in the NW part of town off of Corporate Drive.

Many thanks! From their web site, it looks nice and the rates are just slightly higher than the extended stay one I found. I do like your "forum name" ...

BBQ ... good for what ails you

BBQ's recommendation puts you much closer to downtown and most of the local tourist attractions as well (e.g., Air Force Academy, Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods, etc.), with close access to the main N/S artery, I-25. While it's located in a business park environment, I think this location will nevertheless give you a better feel for CS by driving five minutes in any direction than the airport location that you were considering. The NW neighborhoods, as well as Briargate, and other nice suburbs for you to check out are located within a few minutes drive.
