I know winter just started but It seems like it's been exceptionally warm so far (excluding the last couple days). Has this been a usual winter so far?

Actually, I think it's been unusually cold so far. With last weeks temps in the low digits and even below 0, it's been my experience that it's not typically this cold, this early on.

It's been cold as crap the last week or so. Thanksgiving it was 70 though. Even if Pikes Peak was open, it would be impossible to enjoy it. You would need a snowcat, some sherpas, and lots of soup. It would be like 10 below with wind chills approaching fifty below and everyone would die.

It was warmer in Denver, and downright balmy in the Springs, when I was there at Thanksgiving. Got back to Tucson, and immediately needed a parka, which I no longer own. We had a bunch of snow in the foothills which shut the city down, much to the joy of the school kids....wusses....

It isn't early or late - cold snaps like this happen in November or December most years, but people mark them as unusual because they are snaps - they are lower than our average temperatures, and then things go back to normal. Same thing for unusually high temps - they're not that unusual, they're just not average. Got it?

I would go to Helen Hunt Falls, and see the falls there iced over with the water rushing under... haven't seen 'em this year but it's typical to see it like that.
