My husband and I are getting a deal on a Prius we can't pass up. We are buying a 2005 Prius with 81,000 from my dad who had it since it was brand new. They were going to trade it in and were offered $4500, so they offered it to us for that price!!! Not to mention no interest because we are just paying them monthly for it!

We took it to Colorado this last October and it did fairly well. The battery would run very low going up the hills towards Bailey, where we were staying. I am wondering how well it will do in Colorado Springs. Does anyone have one who can provide some input?

I can tell you that there are a lot of Prius owners around here.

We've been driving Prius, home based in Colorado Springs, since 2000 with no problems to speak of. Average around 50MPG in the summer and 45 in the winter with our current model...a 2010 third generation.

You'll be fine. Just stay on the flat land during big snow storms, unless you have dedicated winter tires. Even still it will suck going up large inclines that are iced over. Not a big deal for most people though.

Have you asked about how soon the big battery pack in a 10 year old Prius will need to be replaced ?

An electric car will actually perform quite well here, or any higher altitude, because it does not loose engine efficiency because of the thin air like a typical internal combustion engine is subject to.

However, I would be curious about battery life, maintenance, and replacement costs before jumping into one.
