Not too many bugs here at all, but if there are, they're spiders! Seriously, though, there's not that many, and if you spray for them, you'll probably not see them in your house at all.

Ok, now that I read these posts I have to ask, Are the brown recluse and black widows common in HOUSES or is that more in the wilderness? I love to go camping so I'm a little worried about that. We are from Northeast area. fumanchu, I am glad you asked this quesiton as I was wondering the exact same thing. It's not bugs overall I was worried about, just spiders as you said. In a subdivision or somethign like that, I am hoping it's just not an issue?

You'll find the spiders in houses, and rattlers and scorpions out in the wild. We also have deer mice, whose droppings spread Hanta virus (a deadly hemhorragic fever similar to Ebola) in parts of the state. The prairie dogs that infest the eastern plains carry bubonic plague. And then there's rabid bats and rodents here and there. There are a lot of lyme-disease carrying ticks in the woods, and there is a threat of contracting West Nile encephalitis from mosquitoes around the woods/lakes all around the state.
Aside from disease, we also have mountain lions and bears in the mountains.

Brown recluse are in homes but are not aggressive....so basically don't poke one (or lay on one).
I'd be very surprised if you ever encountered one here. Even in an area lousy with them I saw only one recluse other than the little bodies my cat left laying around (hence the name). I wouldn't worry too much about the bugs.....this area is about as bug free as you get in the states. Try camping out in Mississippi or Louisiana! They are the size of cats there.

Max-I know what you mean about those cat size spiders down south.
Scares the bejeesus out of me.
Seriously though, is the consensus that the Colorado Springs, Denver and Ft Collins area about as bug free as you're going to get here in the states? With the question having emphasis on spiders. Very small ones every once in a while, I can somewhat deal with, but the ones down south and out west makes me cry like a little girl.

I read somewhere recently, that you're never more than 10" away from a spider ... or some such measurement ... I believe that.

They aren't just in the mountains. There was a story a few weeks ago about a bear destroying a trampoline in Highlands Ranch.

I live in Monument. hardly any bugs at this altitude. (7200)...Summers are great. You can sit outside with food and there are no intruders. We have had moths but they come I think in June and then they are gone. This is a great place! I moved from Dallas and there were every kind of bug especially the cockroaches...yuck. It was so nice to be free of bugs.

I'd be very surprised if you ever encountered one here. Even in an area lousy with them I saw only one recluse other than the little bodies my cat left laying around (hence the name). I wouldn't worry too much about the bugs.....this area is about as bug free as you get in the states. Try camping out in Mississippi or Louisiana! They are the size of cats there.
