I can't wait to get out of Georgia next month and back to Colorado for many reasons but especially the gigantic American cockroaches! Or politely called Palmetto bugs or water bugs. I can deal with any other creature but these things are huge and scary! I grew up in Utah and Colorado and the insects there are nothing like the deep south.

I admit that I scrolled through the responses and didn't see any mention of there being cockroaches in CO...reason enough for me to move there! I despise them (and here in So. Florida, they're the official "pet." ) and would go anywhere where I would never have to see one again! I can handle anything else, except a roach!

I know! What is with these things? When I first saw one in my house I started screaming and crying until my husband came and got it with the vacuum. I swear they look right at you.. Never have I seen anything so hideous. We're leaving the south next month and I couldn't be happier.

I think there are cockroaches in Colorado, but not many. I've personally never seen any here having lived here all my 35 years, but my dad is an electrician and has been in many crawl spaces and homes, etc., over the years and I think he said he's seen a few. Once I had a summer job in Tennessee and saw cockroaches for the first time - gross!

I've lived here my whole life and never seen a brown recluse and only seen a rattlesnake (in the wild) once. Relax, it is not a major concern.

I lived in the Woodland Park area for 35+ years and bugs are basically non-existent. There are tarantulas, scorpions and black widows, but they're mostly south of the Springs. Rattlesnakes are in the rocky outcropping areas, but you'll probably never see one. I think of Colorado Springs as a bug-free zone, including mosquitos for the most part.

But, if you want to see scorpions, tarantulas, black widows, sewer roaches, vinegaroons, Africanized bees, tarantula hawks (huge wasps with a sting that can cripple a grown man), huge black beetles (Palo Verde Root Borer beetles), and other nefarious critters, come on down to Tucson!! It's been quite the experience becoming desensitized to all these guys. Industrial Strength Raid is my friend...
