Does Charter Greens CC&Rs actually ban firearms? (houses, neighborhood)

In my exuberance to learn as much as I can about areas of CS, I found a neighborhood called Charter Greens (up near Pine Creek High School and golf course) that appears to not have a HOA, just CC&Rs (yea!). I found the Charter Greens website, and looked through their rules. Some were weird (no fences allowed around your own backyard?), but I suppose I could live with it. Then I found something on their website called their Guidelines, and came across this (on page 12):

Additional Restrictions
The following items are prohibited in this community:
a. Oil changing of vehicles and equipment without proper receptacles and removal procedures.
... blah blah blah...
g. Firearms

Am I interpreting that right? They are banning firearms in the whole community? Or are they just referring to public areas in the community? It seems vague at best, and absurd at worst. And why wouldn't you allow people to carry in public anyway? What if a young, small woman wants to walk her dog around the neighborhood, and carry protection?

Hoping a realtor or someone who knows about CC&Rs can clarify this for me. Thanks!

Why don't you email them and ask. I have seen some CCRs which say 'no discharge of firearms', or 'no firing ranges'.

Ahh! That makes total sense. Sorry, I don't know much about the specifics of HOAs and CC&Rs (our house here was built in the 1960s, so I've never dealt with this before). It didn't occur to me that they would have rules related to the construction phase only, and I thought it was weird that firearms weren't mentioned in the actual covenants on their site.

beezle1 - I could totally understand (and support) them not wanting someone basically turning their backyard into a shooting range. I just saw "firearms" period, and kinda freaked.

Thanks guys, looks like I found a neighborhood with newer homes and good schools sans HOA. Once we get more committed to CS and/or a move date, I'm sure we'll find a realtor who will help us with more of this.

Yes, IIRC that is standard in much of this north end of town. However, your covenants may preclude lawn sheds, as our do, so a 3-car garage may fill up quickly. In our area, lawn sheds must compliment the style of home, no cheap sheet metal sheds from the local big box hardware store will meet the standards.
