Up here on the Palmer Divide, in the wooded areas, mosquitos are BAD this year. I have never seen them like this before. I currently have 9 bites on my arms. Usually I get like 2 bites the entire year. I posted something on Nextdoor and others in the general area are noticing the same, but only seems to be in the wooded areas. I find it odd since we have had basically NO rain up here for weeks. Where is the standing water they are breeding in?

My theories.... There are a few ponds around. Maybe the heat or something has killed any fish or critters that would have eaten the larvae. Or there is not enough running water to keep things moving so the ponds are becoming stagnant breeding grounds.

Anyone one else in town noticing the same this year?

I've been wondering the same exact thing. One of the drier years on record and I've swatted more mosquitoes than I ever remember in Black Forest. The nearest standing water is at least a mile away, I don't know where they come from?? There were always mosquitoes in CO, but they were usually in wetland areas.

Here off 8th Street it seems like I pick up a bite or two from *something* every time I'm in my garden lately. I haven't particularly noticed that it's been mosquitos, though -- I've been more annoyed by flies when I'm outside, so I have been blaming it on them. I think they might be deer flies? Smaller than house flies, anyway.

I am also in Briargate. I have not seen a mosquito here since 2010 or so. There is so much new construction up here.

They seem to have gone away up where I am. They were bad for about 3 weeks, then gone.
