+1. This is how the thread could actually become productive.

As the OP, I'm glad to read that others feel the same way I do regarding the issues I have with "some people's" kids and dogs. I'm not sure why several felt I should simply be labeled as crabby or that diapers and dog pee were involved.....but...trust me, my feelings are intact. I did wonder if it was coincidental that some immediately took offense and defended themselves or their children.....unless they felt that maybe I was referring to their own children and dogs. If so, my rant reached at least one of my intended targets. Either way, yes....I was venting for the most part. I really wouldn't expect if I were to knock and a door and ask for cooperation that I would get anything more than being cussed at or called crabby. I have come to expect nothing else from disrespectful people. Typically, those types done take criticism or suggestions very well.

Oh! The last few days there has been some kid riding a loud dirt bike around the neighborhood. I'd call the cops, but he has now started practicing to ride no-handed....so I figure it's just a matter of time before he crashes. Problem solved!

Sincerely -
Crabby Pants

For good reason, perhaps?

We live in rural northern Black Forest, and sounds travel quite a ways. My husband knocked on someones door who had wind chimes up that drove him nuts in the summer wind. They looked at him like he was nuts, and could not understand why wind chimes bothered anyone. Thankfully, they agreed to move them to the other side of their house so they were not so noticeable to us, and they have since moved. And the neighbor across the street likes to blow their car horn in the morning around 7am to get the kids to hurry up and come out to the car so he/she can drive them to school. I think many people are just oblivious and live in their own little world.

No Otterpods. I don't think that's the reason at all. I've tried the polite approach in the past. Not with this situation, I'll admit. I've simply concluded that irresponsible and inconsiderate people tend to immediately turn defensive when someone disagrees with them and typically try to defend their right to be annoying with cuss words or name calling.

I really don't expect any different from people of that mindset.

I lived north of Divide (sold the house, but still own the land around the house), and because of the hills and valleys, sound travels far, and it's hard to tell exactly where the sounds are coming from. Lots of people leave their dogs out all night in the summer, and when one barks, it sets off the others. Because summer is when most people have their windows open at night, it can make for a bad nights' sleep. We have one neighbor who will go out on her deck and yell, "Shaaaaaat upppppp" over and over again at 2:00 a.m., not realising that she's as bad as the barking dogs. We also have dirt roads and, although they're maintained by Teller County, kids (again in summer) ride ATV's on the roads and even off road through people's property that's not developed. I've gone past my acreage and seen dirt bike or ATV trails through it where the vegetation is gone and the trails have ruined the land. We also get gun shots day and nights sometimes with hunters, or people in areas around our subdivision target shooting. We can't tell whether it's just that, target shooting, or if it's criminal. It's not just city dwellers that have noise issues, they can be just as bad in the country, too.

Marcy1210- I'd love it if next time your neighbor is outside in the middle of the night yelling- "Shuuuut uuuuuup" to the dog....if you would Please yell out - " I AGREEEEEE!!!"

Before moving here to a neighborhood, I lived in a very rural setting. It was peaceful and quiet. Until......a neighbor about a hundred yards through the thick woods moved and rented his house out to college kids. After two hot, sticky, summer nights in a row of late night, outdoor, around the bonfire parties where we were subjected to hordes of drunk, loud music and party animals chanting - "DRINK! DRINK! DRINK!" I took it upon myself at 6:30 Sunday morning, about two hours after the party had ended, to face both of my garage speakers towards the house and CRANK up the classical radio station while my riding lawn mower idled behind the garage with a brick on the seat. Every 5 minute or so, I would put down my chainsaw so I could lift the seat on lawnmower, so when the engine quit it would backfire. Then I'd start it again and continue sawing a tree into 6 inch logs. I knew the rental house had no air conditioning, so the windows were open. I chuckled to myself with the image of hungover kids trying to sleep with all that noise going on. I think they got the point and I could hear them reminding everyone to be quiet the next few parties. Then.....the next party when it got too loud, the police department handed out numerous under age consumption tickets and the problem ended completely.

And I smiled.....

I hate screaming kids. The ones where I live stand outside and scream incessantly. Not only do I wish they would shut their mouths, but there is a park like two blocks away. Why can't they ever go play there???
