hi everyone!

well, i finally arrived to co springs. I now need to get my registration and a plate. I have been talking to a few people and they told me renew of vehicle restration is 400 - 600 a year for a new car!!?? they are talking about that sticker thing on the license plate, correct? or do they mean just a one time fee? What about older model cars and trucks? like a 1999 ford f150

thanks everyone

Yep a new car will probably be in that range. The price will go down every year.

Here is a calculator which will give an approximate cost:
El Paso County, Colorado

That is exactly why Texans and a lot of other "residents" seem to keep their license plates in the states they moved FROM.

USA USA USA!!

It's personal property tax on your car, not just a vehicle registration fee. When I lived in CT and MA, you got a separate bill from your town for the tax instead.

Yes it's insane here, been here 5 years don't think I've ever paid less than $500-600 per year for registration.

This exactly. And when I lived in CT, my property taxes on my car were $900 for an $11,000 vehicle.

For what it's worth, registering my '05 Civic last month cost me $80 + $20 for the VIN inspection. Before the VIN inspection, that was only about $30 more than I paid each year back in Indiana. I was very pleasantly surprised.

It is the NEW CAR buyers that get the shock of their lives when registering a vehicle.

Down here in Georgia, for me to register my car it was over 300 bucks, for a truck that is an '03. Thought I was was getting ripped off. I remember it was reasonable in Colorado to register, shocked, down here in GA.

IMHO the fine for driving a car that's illegally registered in another state should be around $1500 - with a provision to waive it if you register your car in Colorado within 30 days of getting the ticket.

In my mind anybody who does that is a deadbeat. If you want to live here dive in headfirst instead of being a low life tax cheat.
