We visited Colorado Springs last summer and loved it. How is life for retirees in the area?

Ungodly expensive or hugely a bargain depending on your perspective.

Medical care is growing. Veterans support, if necessary, is significant.

Activities, nearly limitless when viewed locally and throughout the state.

Driving to work, just east of Powers, there are two retirement communities springing up in addition to the one that has already been created (on Tutt/North Carefree)... so investors, at least, feel that there is a need/opportunity for retirees in town.

I think it's great.

We have affordable housing, lots of sunshine, fantastic summers, mild winters, great water, and wonderful neighbors.

There are quite a few retired Air Force folks in the area.

What specific questions do you have?

I suggest you read through the threads to get answers to them.

What do you mean by retirement communities? An actual community for active adults like Del Webb or an apartment building/nursing home?

Wasn't sure if you were looking for retirement communities - but if you're interested in something closer to the westside and mountains and away from the city (but close to downtown), there's this place:

https://www.brookdale.com/en/communi...e-skyline.html

I've heard they have a lot of activities and social gatherings, but can't speak to that first-hand.

More information about what you're looking/hoping for will get more helpful responses.

I think it all depends on where you are coming from - culturally, geographically and economically. We just moved here for our first attempt at "retirement" and are still adjusting to all the differences. We moved from a very vibrant, progressive city but it had gotten too expensive for this phase of life so finding a house that we could afford was really important. We were able to do that here but there have been tradeoffs. Grocery options, restaurants, "vibe" are all lacking here by comparison. I think overall that COS might be a more senior friendly city than some we have known though. We are giving it a try anyway and will reevaluate in a year or so.

Thanks for your responses. All are quite helpful. I'll look through other threads as suggested.

We're just starting on our retirement journey. Not quite ready for Senior housing, but looking for a nice place where we can live comfortably, enjoy activities in the area, make new friends and continue working a little.

So, where is the best area in CS for active retirees?
