Agree - compared to cities and towns back east, where certain section do qualify to be called a bit scary ... it feels different here - at least in my opinion.

Are the people friendly and fun? Is Colorado Springs high crime and rundown? Are new people welcome to the community?

Here in California generalized hatefulness towards others has caused a real palatable decline in social structure. Again, mental illness because normal people do not behave this way.

Signed,

Tired of walking on eggshells in nutcase California.
I'm not a nurse...but, a couple of comments:

1. I'm hopefully moving from the Springs to Arizona late this spring, so I'm no big fan of Colorado Springs. But the health care situation here is, in my view, very good. Both hospital systems are very good. There are plenty of good GP practices and specialties. In fact, if I do leave, the medical care situation is one of the few things I will miss.

2. I don't find COS to be "fun". I think it's boring. Just another small city, nothing special.

3. Crime...I don't see it as an issue.

4. Rundown? Well, the roads got into pretty bad shape for a while. Otherwise, I see it as average.

5. Will you be welcomed to the community. Well, when I moved here and introduced myself to people as being new to the community, I had several ask if I was from California or Texas...they looked at that as negative. And I have heard this quite a few times. Will you be abused? No.

6. Do you have some evidence that mental illness is significantly more common in California?

That's what I felt when I read the OP. I've been in some lovely communities in California...and some that were not lovely at all.
