Really? The last time I was there about a year ago, we were only allowed to go to the restaurant & there was quite a bit of warning that that's all we were allowed to do. That said, no one came & checked on us ;-) & we had a lovely full afternoon Maybe they've changed things. I wish the city still owned it.

Things may have changed in the 10 years since we visited. We went into the hotel and drove around the grounds where we saw mountain goats roaming around, etc.

Hi folks,

Many thanks for the comments. We did end up booking in OCC right on the strip in a very nice loft. Will be there this summer. When it gets closer I may come back with what we are planning and asking for suggestions. We typically hit the beach for summer vacation so we are all excited and looking forward to something different. Been skiing many times in the Breck and Vail areas but never out to CO when there wasn't snow.

Thanks again.
Jay

Careful, then. I say "People come to Colorado for the winters, but stay for the summers."

By the way, for a lot of the more "touristy" things you might be doing, check out the websites. A lot of them offer coupon deals off the price of admittance. Your kiddos would probably enjoy Cheyenne Mountain Zoo - which you can turn into a real adventure by driving beyond the zoo to the Will Rogers Shrine:

Welcome to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

I love OCC, and would highly recommend staying here for a few days or longer! Good lodging is pretty much air bnb/vrbo, but that is the way to go anyway. OCC has great restaurants, shopping, proximity to amazing hiking/outdoor activities, etc. Manitou does have this also, but OCC (in my opinion) is a better jumping off point for excursions, and living in general - plus Manitou traffic in the summer will have you tearing your hair out - not to mention the massive road construction starting there. I love going into Manitou, don't get me wrong, but my heart is in OCC!!
