Mike - no on the horse thing.

My father's 70th birthday is in March and I don't fly so my only alternative is to drive from CS to LV.

I have done it before and it was quite the interesting experience. From Floyd Hill to Grand Junction was really crappy. I stayed in a Glenwood Springs parking lot for a while to calm my nerves in my car under a quit with a pillow for a while. It was an interesting drive despite the fact I have done it many, many times. But never in a rental car and certainly not in a Pontiac Grand Prix. My truck (Oh how I miss her) was my vehicle back then. I was somewhat fearless back then too.

Hehe, around Rifle (maybe earlier - I used to live in GJ so the high and I are friends) I had a state patrol officer pass me not too long after the rental car's traction control told me to slow down. Yikes!

I could fly but, naw, driving through UT and the Western Slope...wouldn't miss the drive for the world. It's incredible and Grand Junction has a few nice diners.

She would have driven up Saturday if I hadn't called to tell her about the weather here.

I am making my move from TX to Colorado Springs in the next couple days. (Yippee!!) I will check some weather websites...but does anyone have an opinion about what the weather will look like in the area. I am driving from San Antonio straight through to Colorado Springs. When we are in NM we will be on 87 then will hit 25 in CO and take that into Co Springs.

Any feedback is great appreciated!!

Thanks for the input! I made it just fine. Actually the worst weather weather was when I was leaving San Antonio at 2am...it was rainy, dark and foggy for a few hours...but after that it was completely clear all the way to the Springs! I love it here!

Variable weather, mild one day, maybe windy a day, maybe a flurry one day, maybe snow one day. Anything can happen. Main roads usually open shortly after major snow, some roads closed until strom passes and plows get out. There could be a big snow and they'll close I-25 at Raton Pass on the NM/CO border, then again, you might not see a single flake of snow the entire time. All season tires are good, 4x4 not needed unless you like to offroad. Can get bitter cold, but gets mild after a few days, usually heavy shirt with jeans in daytime, coats at night, much more clothing if up in the mountains.

A nice time of year to visit, lots of skiing up in the mountains, holiday events and people in the holiday mood.

Do you have specific interests of any sort?
