Quite a few people who look at C-D ask about crime locations within Colorado Springs.

This map from El Paso County shows where homicides occured during 2017

2017 El Paso County homicide victims map | Colorado Springs Gazette, News

Just the facts.

Many on Academy, Platte & Nevada.

One was by inmates.

What really stands out to me is that MOST of these murders were committed by family or other relations. That's really sad.

Also, the CSPD has a link to a tool about calls in your neighborhood on their website anyone can look up.

Good map, which shows one more reason why several of us on here keep advising people to look north of Woodmen for a home.

Then again, like abcdefg567 said, most killings were done by someone known to the victim. It's always been that way. I clearly remember what happened to a great singer "On April 1, 1984, Marvin Gaye was shot to death by his own father, Marvin P. Gay Sr. During a heated argument over an insurance letter...."

My family is back east....

Or per the map, Widefield/Security should be high on everyone's list, too. The only crime anywhere close involved people who weren't from the area but were just looking for a country road to commit murder and dump bodies on.... And per the map one would start to express concerns about Monument, but when you look at the details of the crimes, again it shows a different story.

I wonder how many of the violent crimes involving family members, were done by soldiers or veterans. It makes me sad, but given what I've seen and experienced, these guys have had their mental health and ability to handle civilian life and stresses, outside the structure of the military, stretched pretty thin in some cases, what with PTSD and other issues. And beyond that, military life can be a strain on family relationships.

Just wondering if there is a correlation.

I wonder what the relationship is between violent crime rate and income level?

I don't wonder. That is well documented.

I only wondered if there was a military correlation because a.) I was in a relationship with a soldier, which ended because he lost it and became violent to his family, and b.) This town has a high degree of saturation of military and former military people.

So I wondered. Is that an issue of significance HERE, and I wonder further, if our community could be doing more to help somehow, if so...?

I'm not sure from your comment if you felt put on the defensive by my comment. If so, I apologize, I'm not trying to cast anyone in a bad light. I am saying that military service brings unique challenges to family relationships. It can be difficult. I know, because I've been there.

Perhaps encompassing both elements, the Service and also people in poverty, one might say that ongoing states of high stress can lead to violent behavior. Again...not shocking to anyone, I should think.

I don’t think there is much military factor at all looking through the victims. But economic factors explain why people don’t want low income housing in their neighborhoods.
