Are there available well paying jobs here? (Monument: fit in, transplants)

I read an article in the paper that one of the reasons for increasing home prices is people moving here for jobs. In the same days paper there’s an article about Progressive hiring 900 people but mostly for jobs paying $15/hr.
So are there jobs here that pay well enough for someone to buy a $500k home?

The median home price is still very far below $500,000, - less than $300k actually. $500k+ homes are a pretty small portion of the market still, although growing.

There are a decent number of well-educated professionals around here who can 'afford' such homes, but we do need more lower-cost housing. Those aren't popular with builders and neighbors, though.

For most families it now takes two incomes to buy a house. Sure, there are jobs here that pay well above $100K, but they are in professions such as engineering, medicine, and finance that require lots of education. My guess is that about 10% of the available jobs would fit into that category.

However with the $295K current median house price, two incomes of $50K each would work.

With increases in telecommuting jobs, there is a percentage of employees who can work anywhere they chose and be paid at different wages brackets than the local market would normally support. With the robust communications infrastructure here, Cos is a prime target for those types of jobs.

We also have, and have had for decades, coastal transplants who bring significant equity with them that allows them to step up to housing that exceeds their income brackets.

As mentioned above, we still have a sub $300k median home price with a fairly large segment of sub $200k houses that allow a couple making $15 a hr to swing a house payment.

Lets not overlook civilian contractors with defense clearances that work in defense systems that are subbed out from the military as well as an ever increasing cyber security industry of highly specialized work that typically pays way above average wages.

Whoever gets those Progressive jobs will have a long commute from far northern COS where Progressive is to where a $200k house is.

Look at BAH rate for military. Two married, high school educated, E01's (one with the dependent rate) receive a combined $3,417.00/month.

What type of affect do you think that will have on housing?

How much would that qualify them for?

It inflates the entire housing market. Why are two people receiving two BAH payments in the first place?

That's nothing new. When all those good jobs were on Garden of the Gods Road, they commuted. When jobs migrated to Federal Dr and up Voyager Parkway, they commuted. As jobs move into the Northgate and Monument areas, they commute still.

I don't see that passing. At least, I hope it doesn't!
