I have 2 very active boys, and I'm looking for some educational/recreational ways to keep them busy this summer. I work from home, so last summer was kind of a trainwreck...I'm looking into the YMCA day camps, D20 summer school classes, etc. Any suggestions? TIA!

We have two of our girls (8 and 6) in YMCA camp. There are Y Explorers for the bigger kids with I think different themes...pick a different theme every week?...we're still working on this.

We may switch over to Colorado Springs Swim Team (from the Woodmoor Waves). I think CSST will be working out at Flying Horse (outdoor pool) this summer (and you don't have to be a FH member). I think workouts are weekday mornings. The bummer for us is CSST works out at Colorado College in winter; kind of far from Monument.

Vacation Bible Schools are also great. I have very active 7-year-old twin boys, and I work 30 hours per week, so I feel your pain! If you live in the north end, Flying Horse has some sport camps. Email me and I can give you even more information. :-) doubleblessed@comcast.net .

Our Tae Kwon Do school is doing a week camp from 7am to 4pm for $125 per child. That includes lunch and 2 snacks. They do not need to be enrolled in TKD to attend this. The school's name is Springs Tae Kown Do at the KIng Sooper on Woodmen and Lexington/Rangewood. They will do games, story time and 2 hours of TKD every day.

Also check into the Fun Bus through Widefield. You drop your kids off and they go to places like Elitches, Waterworld, Denver's Museum of Nature and Science, Nickle a Play, ITz, NorthPole, Rockies Games, things like that. They get on a bus with adult chaperons and then you pick them up later. You can sign up for single events and prices are cheap. Look on district 3's website.

Also, the Fine Arts Center does some artistic classes during the summer. There are a few soccer camps throughout town too.

LMAO!! I thought I was the only smart ass around here.

Seriously though, I got my daughter involved in competitve skeet shooting. Doesn't sound like somethinga girl would enjoy, but once she realized she was good at it, she got hooked.

It's kinda funny watching a 10 year old shoot a 20 gauge.

Yes, I was kidding of course. Couldn't help it. Summer's over anyways. I'll try to come up with some real suggestions by may of 09.
