HusBea,

I'm very curious too now that you bring it up. I'm in the middle of multiple 'pre-interviews' and have some other final interviews scheduled this week from several districts. All of them called me (even though I'm out of state) and offered to set up Skype type interviews if needed. They all sounded as if Skype interviews were very normal/routine for their hiring departments.

D20 did call and offer me on site interviews at their job fair but I have not been offered as of yet.

Of course, I haven't been hired yet so maybe there is some truth to the idea that locals get some unspoken preferential advantage.

What district did your wife end up in?

Yes, we do Skype or Facetime interviews pretty routinely if needed. Hiring cycle for next school year is just getting started this month. There will be many job postings from now until August and even some after in hard-to-fill positions. Anyone looking for a position, make sure you're actively checking the postings in target districts every few days.

Thought I would chime in. I teach in D20, and the Skype/phone interviews are very common. I moved from out of state and was interviewed and offered over the phone. I've also been on interview committees where we've done Skype interviews and seem to have hired more people that way than in person.

I know our principle tried to have next years staff design in place by this week before we leave for spring break, and then a lot of hiring happens in early April.

D49 does not appear to have any preferential treatment re: out of state applicants.

SJUB,
The first year here, my wife worked for District 2 until Mike Miles ruined the district. She has worked for district 11 ever since and enjoys it there.
Good luck to you in your job search.
