I arrived at my apartment complex this past Thursday and signed the lease to my place and moved in. It's a nice, clean and vermin free place. I'm on the top floor and the bedroom window, living room slider and balcony has a view of the mountains! My friend, Shatzi and her husband found me a real nice place and it's within my rental budget. I got cable and internet installed yesterday. I also went furniture shopping with Schatzi yesterday at American Furniture Warehouse and bought all my furnishings and they're delivering it tomorrow, on Labor Day. The Garden of the Gods is just up the road from me and when I go to the corner of my street and Mesa Rd, the Garden of the Gods looms on the horizon to the northeast. Just driving through town, I've got to be careful to keep my eyes on the road because the scenery is so awesome! :-) I'm so glad that I made this move!

BTW, I've passed by the Rocky Mountain Brewery at the Roundhouse several times on shopping runs. I think it would be cool to have a meetup there. Let me know if you're up to it via private Direct Messages.

I grew up in Colorado Springs in the mid1950's to mid 1960's. I still enjoy shopping at certain music shops on East Platte Ave. out by the Citadel Mall. Two friends of mine I worked with on pipeline construction still live there, I go through the Springs a couple times a year.

Rochester_Veteran, once you get used to where everything's at and you want to take a few one day trips around the area, you'll find that there's a lot more mountains than just Pikes Peak. One of my favorite parts of the state is only an hour from the Springs. Take state highway 115 to Canon City and then go west on U.S. 50 to Salida. Some of the prettiest mountains you'll see are the Sangre de Cristo Range from Coaldale to Salida and the Collegiate Range between Salida and Buena Vista. The Arkansas River has some great spots for trout fishing, was just there a few weeks ago.

An hours drive on I-25 south takes ya to the Wet Mountain Range, Rye and Colorado City are two postcard pretty towns. West on highway 24 takes you over Wilkerson Pass to South Park. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is one of the best zoos in the country. Take a lot of camera film with you!

Welcome to Colorado. Enjoy!

Thanks DOUBLE H! I appreciate your suggestions for day trips as that's what I plan on doing a lot of! Thanks man!

Is there a good website for learning the names of the mountain peaks above Colorado Springs besides the obvious, Pikes Peak and Cheyenne Mountain. There's a peak that I can easily see out my living room and kitchen that has some neat sandstone rock formations on its slope. Is that Mays Peak?

Try this:
Hey What's That
Click get a new panorama
enter a location
Give it a title
After a minute or two, you'll see a small silhouette with lots of clickable red points; click on one - the list of all visible peaks will show up.

The website worked great! It looks like those sandstone rock formations are on the slope of Mays Peak. I will use the website to help me identify the other peaks I see! Thanks again, suzco!
