End of summer I'm relocating from the Springs to South Carolina. I may need to put my stuff in storage 1 or 2 months.

How best to move?

I'm thinking one of the Pod movers, but I've never used one.

Best suggestions?

Thanks!

I think that's a good idea. Maybe cheaper than a truck with less risk. You could also look into renting a vehicle with car tow.

I met someone who had their stuff on a shared truck, and it ended up being held for ransom....I guess it's a common scam.

I used one of the shipping containers (not PODS, but another company that seems to be no longer in business) when I moved from Boston to Colorado Springs several years ago, and it was the easiest and most cost-effective move I ever had. It's an especially good alternative if you need to put your stuff in storage, since the container stays sealed with your padlock the entire time. Get multiple quotes and check different companies to see what their requirements for placing the container are. E.g. PODS needs a lot of maneuvering room around their containers and can't put them in a single parking space, which is one reason why I went with a different company that used smaller containers they placed with a forklift.

Tip: there's a "general moving" forum on this board where I'm sure this sort of question has been discussed a gazillion times.

If you end up hiring a conventional mover, be sure to get a BINDING estimate which locks in the price. There are tons of horror stories of people who thought they found a great deal on moving, didn't get a binding estimate, and found there were thousands of dollars due at the end of the move and if they didn't pay up they didn't get their goods. A binding estimate from a reputable firm will avoid your goods being held for ransom by low-bid movers. I worked for several years for the DoD agency that managed the $1B+ global movement of household goods for the DoD and can bore you for hours with horror stores of moves gone bad.
