I have accumulated enough old documents while cleaning out stuff that I need to take it to be shredded. In past years, there have been free shred events around town, but I am not having any luck finding any this year. Anyone know of any coming up?

Not free, but they only charge $5 for one box (last I knew) - http://federalshred.com/

They even let you watch your stuff being shredded if you need that peace of mind. They do CDs and hard drives, too.

I just found out about a shred event in Monument at Schur Success Group that benefits Tri Lakes Cares over the next few days.
