I just flew DEN to PHX $21 (not a typo) on Frontier. I’m 65 min from DEN and 35 min from COS. Hard to imagine Southwest will have the combination of destinations and price to make a dent in DEN business.

I won’t be happy until COS is an international airport. Why it still yet isn’t is beyond a mystery to me given the huge military presence we have here. You’d thing the DOD would be heavily lobbying for this.

Southwest doesn't do that. They have basically 3 sizes of 737s and none make sense for that very short hop. They will make fliers connect through another hub within 2 hours or so, figure on maybe flights to Vegas and Chicago or Indianapolis as likely connectors.

What they also don't do is bring down prices, its almost always more to fly on them than the others in normal times. I'm sure they see COS as a way to go into a market with little competition at this time compared to most.

SWA has lots of spare aircraft, equipment, and personnel... So good time to add destinations. I suspect they have run the numbers for destinations, but I expect PHX, Vegas, LAX, Chicago, MSP, DAL. I will be very happy to have a Colorado alternative to DEN.

Bear Den rates? (selling empty seats, or promotional / travel club)

I took advantage of 2 winters of $19.91 direct flights PDX to SAN ~ 10 days / month (Spirit)

I have got $19 PDX to DEN on Frontier during sale dates.

Not likely to see those rates from COS.

I think it technically has been at some points, with flights to Mexico.

Why? It's not like the military presence drives a ton of routine flight demand to overseas locations. If it does, it generally comes in the form of chartered or Air Force flights.

It's nice to see SW coming into COS. It will be interesting to see what kind of flights they will offer and it makes sense as they can use the Denver hub to base their crews out of given the travel distance so the expansion probably isn't terribly expensive for them.

Vegas, Phoenix, and Dallas seem like certainties. Oakland wouldn't surprise me.

I was thinking OAK or SJC for the Hawaii connections!

Been LUVing those $79 flights Bay area to HI with free companion pass to visit relatives who left CO in 1980 for Hawaii. (They Never came back!)

I usually overnight a few days in SFO area before and after HI flight for some extra CA sunshine / Ice Cream / sour dough clam chowder & free library tours.
