We're in the Bay Area and are relocating to Colorado Springs in June. Wondering if anyone who has made the trip knows if the southern route (and which one 5 to 15 to 40 to 25 OR 5 to 15 to 70 to 25, or the northern route (through the Sierras, Reno, Salt Lake City, Wyoming on 80, drop down to the Springs)?

Not driving a big moving van - just regular mini-van. Really wondering about that stretch of 70 from Utah to Denver ...

THANK YOU!

Default We moved in June too!

It was the first week of June 2002 when we did the drive from the LA area to Colorado Springs. We took the route that goes through Vegas, so I-15 North to I-70 East in Utah, then C-470 East, then I-25 South. Taking C-470 saves you from having to go through downtown Denver. No problems and we did it in the huge size U-Haul truck. There is a segment on I-70 in Colorado that is quite hilly, up and down a lot, through Vail Pass and the ski resort areas. But it will be very green and nice weather in June.

The segment on I-70 through Utah is quite boring and cell phone service comes in and out, around and near the towns.
Welcome to CO!

We just moved from Vegas to Woodland Park (20 miles W of Springs). We (well, I LOL)drove a big Penske truck/trailor via I15 to I70. Definitely a shorter route than the southern route. Very nice drive with great views.

While both routes are a beautiful drive, go the Southern route (40) if you like to stop and see stuff. You go by the Hoover Damn, Grand Canyon (South Rim), Albuquerque and Santa Fe. You can also see a big metorite crater in NM.
