It seems that if you want to go to a nice mall, you have to drive to Denver (Park Meadows Mall, for example). There is also the Outlets at Castle Rock (technically not an indoor mall, I believe). The Shops at Briargate are nice (again, not a mall).

I realize that malls have fallen out of favor over the years, but I still like to go to an indoor area when the weather isn't nice. I wonder if there is still room for one nice mall in COS (not on the level of Park Meadows, but fairly nice). Chapel Hills Mall is looking a bit tired. With Sears gone and construction of apartments, do you think it will see a revival over the next few years? I hear mgmt isn't that great. I didn't visit the Citadel, but from what I hear there are safety issues around there.

So what do you think?

Go check out the Citadel. It probably still won't please you, but given that thousands of people go there all the time, the safety fears are somewhat overblown, imho. I seriously doubt we will see a fancy mall project or revitalization of the existing ones to a substantial degree anytime soon.

Agree safety fears about the Citadel are probably a bit overblown. Also agree we won't see much in mall revitalization for the foreseeable future and if we do, it will be on the far north ends between Cos and Monument in the form of new construction.

Does the Chapel Hills mall still exist on the north side . . . I left six years ago . . .

Its still there and is probably 95-97% occupied. The Sears was torn down and new apartments are being built in its place. It does have winter hours where they open early for walking but like most malls, overall traffic is down year round. Except for Macys, all the high end retail has left for Shops at Briargate.

TCHP, thank you. I recall some changes before we left. The revised movies were very nice.

No, I don't. I think malls are a dying thing. High-end malls are doing a bit better, but I wouldn't expect any mall to turn around at this point.

I occassionally walk through the Citadel, and I'm honestly sad for the local business owners who have decided to open up shop in that mall. I can't imagine that will end up being a good decision.

Yes, every now and then something happens there. But still overall it is a completely normal place to go. I have a close friend who works there every day and it isn't an issue.

It's not the best place, but one has to put things in perspective.

When I was still living in COS there were a number of times I heard locals talk about the 'ghetto areas' of COS, and it just made me laugh, literally out loud.
