I am considering relocating to CS for my final resting place (not death, just life). I have lived all over the states, England, and Korea (yes I am ex-military) but I consider San Antonio, TX home. My wife and I have always had a intrigueing interest about COlorado and a job opportunity has presented itslef where I may be able to come to the SPrings. I have been reading most of the posts in this forum and have not read anything to deter my thoughts of moving to CS, as a matter of fact, I am getting excited about the opportunity. I really enjoy San Anotnio and I see many similar comparisons to what many of you have said in these forums.

My questyion is this, is there anyone living in CS for a decent period of time (say three years) who has also lived in teh San Antonio area (and enjoyed it there)? If so, what is your feelings about CS versus San Antronio.

After reading some of these posts, I know there are some of you who do not like Texans moving to your area. I wouldn't like anyone coming in and complaining about the area or being a "well where I am from" person either. If I do move to CS, I will be a true transplant, I will give up water skiing for Snow skiing, I will become a midsize sity person versus a largcity person, and I will root for the home team (okay I lied, I will not stop rooting for the Cowboys or the Spurs, but i will change over to the ROckies and the Avalanche and I will support the other two when i can)

Looking forward to the opportunity to live in such a beautiful place.

Also, looking for anyone involvoed with the flag football leagues in CS to ask some questions

I've lived in both, but I can't say I liked San Antonio. Sorry.

I recently had the same choice. I eventually chose CS over SA/Austin.

I'm a dyed in the wool Texan and don't regret it one bit!

I've lived in San Antonio twice...loved the city, but I picked COS as my "final resting place" too.

Differences?

First, no fire ants in COS. I hate 'em. And I've never seen one of those big nuclear mutant cockroaches like they have in S.A.

Second, next to no humidity in COS. A 90 deg summer day with no humidity is a far different thing than a 90 deg day in S.A.

Third, a real dearth of good mexican food in COS, at least compared to S.A.

Fourth, it's way, way colder in COS year-round. It's not uncommon to have temps drop to the mid-40s on a summer night. And of course snow and ice in the winter. For me, snow's for playin' on now. If you have to get to work every day it can be a factor.

Fifth, you have Colorado as your backyard playground. Camping, fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, its all in Colorado. Lots of places within a days drive, and even places in town (i.e. Garden of the Gods) for a nice afternoon outing. It rocks.

Last, no fire ants. (!!)

Default Run, run like the wind!

Any chance to not live in Texas is an opportunity. My sister has lived in San Antonio for the past 10+ years. Granted, there is GREAT mexican food, plus HEB (almost worth staying in Texas,) but Colorado is beautiful!!!!
Plus, as the previous person posted, no fire ants. No gigantic roaches. I don't know the comparison of the mosquito population, but it is very large here in Houston.
I miss seasons, the beautiful foliage and crisp Fall temperatures, the snow... (I lived in Michigan for a year.)
Texas temperatures suck! (And I was born and raised here.)
Enjoy the beauty and everything that Colorado offers. I envy you!

98% of the population speaks English only, so that is nice difference IMO (coming from Las Vegas and Texas). Nice to see high school students working in Fast Food and other low wage jobs. Again, IMO

No humidity is a big plus as already stated. Colorado has state income tax, big negative, but at least the property taxes aren't as crazy as TX. Car registration is quite more expensive in CO compared to TX. Every state gets you where they can.

If you can live with some snow, then CO is perfect. Just use it to your advantage, skiing!! The Springs gets less snow than Denver and similar to most Midwestern states (Snowfall - Average Total In Inches).

Big negative for me is that my cars are slower at this elevation!! LOL

Ditto on all of the other quotes...one note - the way the weather patterns flux around here due to the mountains, you do not have ("normally") long periods of cold in the winter. Rarely have I gone for more than a couple of weeks in the winter w/o riding the motorcycle...and no fire ants!
