I'm curious about something. It does not seem that any of the larger banking chains exist in Colorado Springs. Like when I got an account with Bank of America, I did that because they have branches everywhere and it would be convenient for travel. They have branches everywhere, that is, except Colorado. Anyone know why that is? UMB seems to be the only bank in Colorado Springs with branches in other states. I looked through the phone book and couldn't find any others.

I don't live there and my bank doesn't exist in Colorado either, but I think Wells Fargo does in COS. It is unusual that most of the larger banks don't have branches, don't know why.

Colorado didn't allow branch banking until very recently, so many of the small banks were bought by the big chains over the past few years.

Cherry Creek National was bought by one of the bigger chains out of Minneapolis, and they've now put together a regional bunch of outlets, as an example, which includes American National Bank up through Wyoming.

Washington Mutual is now opening branches in Colorado.

I saw several Wells Fargo's in COS. Many are conveniently located on Academy Blvd. and a few are in Downtown. I've always banked with them in CA, makes life so much easier that they have branches there!

We used B of A in CA. We changed to Wells Fargo right before we moved. There are 2 branches in Monument and a bunch in COS. B of A has ATM's here, but no offices. Weird.

I use US Bank and they have branches all over the states, kinda like Qwest....in a 14 state region I think.

I have been with them since before branch banking and is was known as Colorado National Bank back then. Been with them since 1990.

Oh and Wells Fargo. I have heard nothing but bad about them.

Janet, you have a keen eye and you are correct. It's a little funny that way. Most of the banks are smaller local chains. I was shocked when I moved here just 2 months ago. Bank of America doesn't exist here. So I guess they're the Bank of America, but not Colorado.

As mentioned above, Wells Fargo seems to be a popular branch here in town, but Ent Federal Credit Union is also everywhere. If I had the opportunity to do it again, I would've probably gone to Ent, just because I see branches everywhere.

Oddly enough, Pentagon Federal Credit Union ( I left D.C.) has a singular office here, so I had all my funds transfered there, but oddly enough, they don't actually have cash at the branch!! They have loan officers and a receptionist and that's about it. Everything is done through ATM. Want to cash a check, ......can't. You can deposit it then withdraw it through the ATM....Geez. That's just strange to me, but on the good side, there are never any lines!!

Guess it's looking like I should check into Wells Fargo or maybe US Bank when the time comes. It might be better to switch to a smaller chain, anyway. There would probably be less chance of fraud and identity theft in that situation. Bank of America is a pretty big target for crooks. I've already gotten phishing emails in the year I've been with them. I appreciate all the information from everyone!

I don't know how many branches a bank needs to be to be big. We have Wells Fargo and I have used them since 1996 all over the country so in my view they're pretty big. There is also Chase and Bank One.

We have just moved back here and have had no problems finding any conveniences.
