A lot of interesting posts, thanks guys.

I am really glad to hear that you can be part of a group if you choose and its socially acceptable if you choose not to.

I was born a Roman Catholic, am now Athiest; my youngest son is a Baptist pastor married to a woman whose father is a bigwig with FOTF....................we don't discuss religion in our family anymore.

I simply have a "No Soliciting, No Proselytizing" sign on my door. Except for the few teens that they drive around in those vans (makes me mad) to sell cleaning products or such, people respect that for the most part. I haven't had a religious group knock on my door in years because of that.

FotF (as it should be written) is Welcome to Focus on the Family

When those kids come to the door and ring the bell despite my "No solicitors" sign, my kids used to call out to me. My favorite response to make is, "Don't answer it - it's someone who can't read!"

My kids have picked up on this and now when someone rings the bell, they will call to each other something along the lines of, "Is it a friend, deliveryman or someone who can't read?"

So you've taught your children to treat strangers with sarcasm and indignity? How clever.

I've never understood why so many people find a polite 'No thank you, I'm not interested' so difficult to say. Isn't there's enough things in the world be upset about without getting mad when someone shows up at your door with something they believe could help you and your family?

Well, I think most of us treat solicitations politely when we only have to deal with it occasionally. However, when it gets out of control, politeness goes out the window. In the past few weeks, I've literally been getting 3-4 unsolicited calls PER DAY on my unlisted number and/or my cell phone from survey groups trying to survey me about politics/election. I've requested each and every one permanently remove me from list. Not all of them have been very nice about my request (one surveyor was downright nasty), and so I've lost all patience or politeness with such solicitations, immediately responding to all with a, "I do not take unsolicited calls or participate in surveys. You are illegally calling me on a cellular phone. Please remove me permanently for your list."
