In today's paper. Sounds like a major clash in the making between drillers and homeowners, whose well water may go bad. Link:

Anyone heard of this, or have an idea of where in Monument the 21,000 acre drilling site is located?

One note is that Federal laws in the matter overrule local statutes. Now we know what those lobbyists are doing in DC when they "help" agencies write policy and regulations for Federal agencies. Best government money can buy.

Hey Mike, this is an article about the situation. Looks like the area is west of Monument along the foothills.

I don't know the exact location of proposed well, but, yes, it in the area west of Monument, along the base of Mt. Herman, Rasberry peak, and as far north as the mouth Limbaugh canyon. The thing is, that's all either BLM or Nat'l Forest Land, which the drilling company bought rights to years ago, so there's not much residents can do. I sure can understand why folks would want oil-drilling in their back yard, but I also understand why and how the drilling companies can get away with it. Just one of those tough facts of life - like logging or mining - but kinda tough to protest if you drive a car or heat your home.

Hopefully, if drilling proceeds, the corporations that run them will exercise discretion and not turn the entire hillside into a barren desert.
