I have heard this mentioned a few times as a great spot to hike and view. Where exactly is it? Nothing really comes up under google......wondering if it is a local nick name?

Thanks,

Journey

Devil's Playground is an area a mile or two from the summit of Pikes Peak. It got the name because some freaky things go on up there during an electrical storm. It's basically a spot where the ground acquires a charge during a storm, and causes the lightning to dance around from rock to rock. If you take the Pikes Peak Auto Highway, it's on the map, right after the tightest set of switchbacks. There's an area where you can park, and a couple trails to the top of the outcropping. I don't think it's worth heading that way just for the Devil's Playground alone, but it's worth a stop-and-explore-a-bit if you're going to the summit via the road.

Shall we mention the giant pack rats that eat babies on the Peak while we're at it? (Don't worry, it is just an old tall-tale.) But you MIGHT see a marmot or pica, which is always cool. Check out this photo of the Peak after this weekend's snow: Pikes Peak absolutely buried - Out There : Colorado Springs Gazette, CO
