I'd LOVE to move to Colorado Springs. I've been there a few times and am even coming for a visit in July. But I don't see how to move there. My husband and I don't have..well, I am a receptionist for non-profit and he installs bbqs/fireplaces for a small business. So it's not like we can save up lots of money to rent before finding a job. I don't see how to find a job when we can't drive back and forth (we live in New Mexico) for interviews. I do have some family up there but don't think we can stay with them. This would be huge for us, but I really want it! I guess when I'm there for a weekend in July I can look around but I just don't know where to start. We don't really have a preferenece for area of CS, just need a jr high for the kiddo. Are there low-rent areas? What is average rental price? And what do jobs pay? I'm willing to work retail until I can find another office job. Are there temp agencies?

Help! We are both in mid/late 30s and it's time for a change!

Are there low-rent areas?
Yes
What is average rental price?
Depends on the area, you could easily find a nice cozy family home for around $1k/mo, o less, if you don;t mind living in a 'low-rent' area.
And what do jobs pay?
Depends on the job, but it's competitive with other urban areas of the non-coastal western US.
I'm willing to work retail until I can find another office job. Are there temp agencies?
Yes

So under 1000 a month is low-rent? Is it a bad area?

Alicia, you can probably make it work out.

To get an idea of rents, look at craigslist.com but be very careful contacting anyone. There are a few crooks out there on CL all the time, read the cautionary notes that CL provides, and never send or wire money or personal info to CL strangers.

Lots of decent homes under 1K. I live downtown in an older but nicer home for 900/mo. I'm sure some can be had for around 800 in good neighorhoods.

Rentals.com and Remax.com both should give you a good idea of price.

I guess rent is all dependant on pay received.. I looked on craigslist about jobs also. Thanks everyone. Still sounds like we need to save and save and save incase we don't find a job right out of the shoot.
thanks again.

Probably one of the biggest disadvantages of wanting to move to Colorado Springs is that lots of other people want to do the same - Job competition can be stiff here with people trading down to lower salaries to gain the outdoor lifestyle advantages of Colorado Springs.

I think you should try to get jobs before making the move. The job market is very difficult right now. Perhaps you could stay at a motel for a couple of weeks and check out the job market - before making a move. I'd truly hate to see you move here and then not be able to find a job.

Condos and apartments can be rented for $700 - 800 / month - 2 bedrooms - might be a little small but a good start in nice areas. Finding rentals would be easy - finding job will not be.
