Hello! We have some questions about Colorado Springs and I was hoping someone out there could help me, since you've been so helpful in the past. We are considering moving to CS if a job offer comes through. We are big race fans, stock car, drag racing, motorcycle races, etc. what kind of racing can we see in the CS area? What is the water quality, can you drink from the faucet or do you have to filter the water? We are looking at the northeast area as this would be closest to the new job. Is this a safe area? Do you have to be afraid to walk around at night? Can you leave windows open for fresh air and still be safe? Are people friendly in general? We used to live in Loveland and everyone was so friendly, that was one reason we fell in love with Colorado. I appreciate any input, opinions and advice.

Racing seems like an odd thing to throw in there alongside water, utilities... etc. but, whatever...

I'm not sure if COS is exactly a mecca of racing but we do have some rather prominent racing venues here...

Most notably:
PIKES PEAK INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
and
PIKES PEAK HILL CLIMB

I'll let you browse the CD site and forum for info on things like utilities, water, safety, and friendliness, since it's chock full of threads on those subjects... If you need more details after that, then please feel free to post further questions back here.

Drag racing is up in Denver, at Bandimere Speedway, about 90 minutes to the north. I dont' know of any here in COLO SPGS.

PPIR used to have some Busch-series races, went to one in 2005 when we moved here, but the track was sold in 2006(?) to a group who wanted to strip out the seats and ship them off to another track - not sure if that really ever happened. There is some activity at PPIR, doesn't sound like much though. AFAIK, there is no NASCAR scene out here; for that, you need to drive 600+ miles to Kansas City, Dallas, Phoenix, or Las Vegas.

As for our water, for the most part our water is the stuff people put in bottles and sell to other people. Literally.

Water quality is great - we have a filter, but you can definitely drink it out of the tap just fine. Northeast is a great part of town, you'll feel very safe. We don't leave the windows open once we go to bed, but we'd probably close and lock the windows at night if we lived in Mayberry! People are absolutely friendly.

You'll love it here, most everyone that live here does.

Carrie

Everyone I know leaves the windows open at night, but I guess that just depends on your own comfort.
