My primary concern on a pick-up move to Colorado Springs is that it has a fairly tough job market. Lots of highly skilled individuals (often over-qualified) willing to take lower paying jobs here just to be here and enjoy the great outdoor lifestyle.

Personally, I would not be worried about going out or about gangs here - they are relatively minor problems for the vast majority of the population here. If you for sure are going somewhere, you could do far worse than coming here. The main factor is the income, and you said you have that, so if it is enough for you then why not?

Finding employment is the main concern. Job market here is very tight. Having training/experience in health care or with a defense contractor would be very helpful. Especially beneficial is having a government clearance. Many jobs available for those with secret or above clearances. Many jobs taken by soldiers and airman separating from service, retiring here, or spouses of active duty personnel. Good luck.
