Hello there!!

I just moved to Colo Spgs a few months ago and bought a house and well, the previous owners didn't take care of the backyard at all.

Now, I was wondering if anyone here knows a good landscaping company that is not too expensive? I really don't know any locals and I have no idea. All I know is that I need to stick to a budget with this.

Thank you so much!!

Stefanie

Your realtor should have several on his/her rolodex. Call Harding's Nursery, or other nursery operations, and see if they have a recommended provider.

Consider "drip" irrigation for the lawn, costs more to put in but gets same results with very low water usage. Water rates went up 40% this year and if you have the drip systems, you are allowed to run them during times of water restrictions, when wasteful above-ground sprinkler systems are not allowed to be operated. I've been here 4 years and haven't seen any water restrictions but it could happen any given year.

If a new fence is in order, either get it done by the same firm or be sure to coordinate it, as landscapers often have to get small tractors in the yard to do their work, and you don't want them removing or damaging a new fence.

If your lot slopes, or a nearby one slopes DOWN towards yours, there may be drainage issues to contend with, not a biggie, but get it all done at one time.

I use Alternative Landscape and Maintenance for mowing right now but John does everything from maintenance to landscaping and is very good, punctual, cleans up well, etc. 302-5965. Wife's name is Sarah, who is the Office Manager.

I used Robertson's Landscaping for my back yard a couple of years ago and couldn't be happier. Here are the before and afters. I filled everything in with shrubs and trees myself the following summer.

They've been around for 50+ years and have a great reputation.

I took bids from 5 different contractors...what an interesting time that was. I decided to play it safe and go with an established company.

I suggest the following:
-Get bids from 3-5 contractors
-Ask lots of questions (how soon can you start, how long will the job take, once you start, will you stay on the job until it's competed, etc.)
-Do some research and understand the terminology, especially when it comes to irrigation
-Get everything in writing
-Look at some of their previous jobs
-(IMPORTANT) Do NOT pay them until the work is finished...you may have to pay something up front, but hold the bulk of your payment until the work is finished and you are completely satisfied

I'm sure I'll think of more later...will let you know.

Good luck!
