Alright I dropped out of high school and got a GED, and I don't have a job nor do I go to college right now. So my question is what things are there for a 17 year old like myslef to do in this city. Mainly sports groups. Is there any? Also if theres any hiring managers on here from Colorado Springs who hire for minumum wage jobs please PM me. Thank you in advance!

I don't know specifically of any sports groups for youth, but I am sure some one on this forum will know of some.

As far as jobs, I have a teen who was job hunting a year ago. She ended up going to each of the places that were convenient (close by) and asked for job applications, and she got a job fairly quickly. Hey, maybe you could get a job at the YMCA and that could combine your sports interest with some pay?

I live on the Northside, Briargate near the Chapel Hills mall. And yeah I do have reliable transportation to get to work, but I can't find a job.

Did you play any sports? Could you coach? I think the Y is a great idea, I just looked on their website and they have atleast 2 openings for front desk. I think it is said $8.75 an hour! Not too shabby!

I'll have to check it out. As long as you don't have to be 18, $8.75 would be way more than the $7.28 minumum wage for me.

What kind of things interest you? Yes, there are sports you can join - contact the Park and Rec for league information.

Do you like nature? Here is something coming up this weekend:

Happy Fall, Birders!
Fountain Creek Regional Park’s seasonal bird counts are a popular tradition. Join us on Saturday, Sept 13, 2014 for this year’s fall bird count. For planning purposes, please RSVP by phoning 719-520-6745, or re-mailing Steve Getty Steve.Getty@ColoradoCollege.edu . The new nature center requests a $5/person donation to help support their bird feeder seed program.
Where: Fountain Creek Nature Center (320 Peppergrass Ln, Fountain, CO, 80817)
When: 7:00 – 10:30 a.m., Sept. 13, 2014
Who: Everyone is welcome
What to bring: Binoculars, field guides, cameras, water, sunblock
We will provide: Coffee, orange juice, breakfast goodies beforehand
Please RSVP to Steve Getty, email Steve.Getty@ColoradoCollege.edu
At 10:30 AM, we will reconvene at the nature center for a brief tally of the species found. Cameras have been very helpful for identification and documentation.
I look forward to seeing you at the count. Please let me know if you have any questions, or do not wish emails regarding future Fountain Creek bird counts.
Thank you,
Steve Getty
Fall/Spring Fountain Creek Bird Count Coordinator

The local parks have tons of activities - go to their websites and subscribe to their e-mail lists.

If you like physical activity, you might love trail work. See TOSC | Trails and Open Space Coalition for lots of opportunities to help build or repair trails locally.

Here's the link for Colorado Springs Park and Rec, but it isn't the only one - for example, Widefield has its own, and many other smaller communities do as well - so look around. City of Colorado Springs - Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Homepage

Basically, if you want something to do, you have to find something to get involved in and not expect to just "hang out" somewhere - although many neighborhood parks do have great pickup games.
