Me and my wife are most likely going to moving there within the next few months to a year, and I just have a question on a vehicle.

We own a 2005 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with a V8 (2WD). I have heard RWD vehicles are not the best in the snow. How well will this vehicle do there? With snow or ice tires?

V8's do pretty well, and if it is an issue you can put sand bags in the back to help some. We don't have bad weather all the time, just now and then.

Moving from MI to CO, I found the winter driving there kind of surprising. While in MI it's pretty much an everyday type of thing, in the Springs it usually hit heavy and quickly, but didn't last very long at all. In fact, during the winter I was there they freeway (and pretty much the whole city) was shut down in preparation for the storm. Only once did I really find myself in a really hairy driving situation, and even then I don't think 4WD would have mattered (it was all ice up on Monument).

As long as you've got the clearance to get through a snow-filled parking lot, you'll be just fine 99% of the time. The other 1% of the time you'll probably be just staying at home rather than venturing out to test your vehicle's capabilities.

Do yourself a big favor and sell the truck before you move. Why? Because when you DO sell it down the road you will not be able to get much for it since RWD trucks are not desireable in Colorado.

On that note, my wife has a RWD Chevy TrailBlazer SS (LS2 400HP) and it's pretty much useless on all-seasons if we get any kind of snow/ice on the ground. With Blizzak winter tires and 200lb of sand in the reaR, it does very well but still can get dicey when going up an incline (a lot of those up here). It's lease is up in February and I'm getting her a used 2005 Dodge Durango. So what I'm saying is if you do keep it and find yourself having issues getting around in the snow/slush/ice, then invest in some good winter tires and you'll be fine.

Plus you can use it as an excuse to move up to a real truck and get the Ram with the HEMI

FWD is fine with good tires.

It's all about stopping and turning. This is where the rubber between the road and your car comes into play. Get winter tires to have the best control and safety. Well worth the $400 it will cost to run them for 3-4 winters.
