I will be working in Colorado Springs during January 2010 for about a month, and again in April 2010 on a university sabbatical project. In searching for temporary housing, I found several corporate level possibilities, but those are out of my price range ($400-500/month). I saw an ad for the Spruce Lodge, but don't know much about the area. Where else might I look?

I am also interested in short term rental. We will be renting for a while before (if) we buy, but we will have to start off at a motel/hotel in the beginning.

IMO, Spruce Lodge is a seedy old motel in a so-so area. Google it and you can actually get a street view of the place. It goes back to the days of 1940's and 1950's tourism, where you parked in front of your own little hut. It's a mile north of the main Penrose St Francis Hospital on N. Nevada. Look for something closer to COLO College and the hospital; perhaps Craigslist.

I agree with Mike. That area of North Nevada (and South Nevada as well) is just not very safe for most people.

I haven't a clue about that short of a term type of rental for less than that though. You may want to see if anyone in your project has any leads. Outside of Craigslist and the known corporate short-term rentals, I haven't a clue.

I would look on Craigslists....there are often short-tern, temporary rentals that would be much cheaper than a hotel or corporate type rental.
