Planning on staying at Motel 6 at this exit. Is it a safe part of town ?

Is that Fillmore? It is okay/average. A few weird things have happened there - the Texas 7 hid out in a place near there, and Dog The Bounty Hunter has been on TV around there looking for fugitives.

The two men from the Texas 7 were at what is now the Silverwood Hotel and Conference Center...which used to be a Hilton. Not sure how that even effects this conversation. But okay then...

Anyhow, I wouldn't be afraid to stay there but it wouldn't be my first choice. I would actually stay at the hotels/motels right off Garden of the Gods Road. It's amazing how a mile or so will affect things. But for the pricing and such, the Motel 6 isn't bad.

(I used to work and live in the area back in the day...)

I would stay there, too, without worry; I work not too far from there. There are just a few interesting stories I felt worth mention.

I agree with COflower. I lived in Colorado Springs as a kid-loved it! Still love it. In the off season, I have found the Motel 6 and Super 8 at Garden of the Gods road VERY affordable, somewhere around $30 a night. One of my favorite restaurants, Black Eyed Pea is nearby, and it is VERY good. I've stayed at both motels over the last few years, and have never had any problems. Same with Motel 6 at Fillmore.

Are there any extended stay places around Garden of the God that should be avoided? I saw one one the newspaper page where there was a standoff between the police and a couplw who were armed.

I don't think so. GoG is a decent area.

You'll be fine. As with ANY hotel / motel - don't leave anything in your car overnight. But that could be said for anywhere in the USA.
The Garden of the Gods area is fine. - Enjoy your visit to Colorado Springs!

At $30/night, I'd be more worried about the bedsheets and toilet seat than the neighborhood.
